Reviving the art of handmade—created to create
Who we are
Hey there! We’re Salt and Seam, a sewing workshop studio that believes sewing is more than just stitches and seams—it’s a beautiful, empowering skill that connects us to our creativity, our heritage, and each other.
Our founder, Anna, has been sewing for over 20 years—ever since she was a little girl learning to stitch doll clothes with her mom. From there, her passion blossomed into a lifelong love of design, craftsmanship, and creation. She’s tackled just about every project you can imagine: prom dresses, jeans, casual apparel, men’s suits, her own wedding dress, even swimwear, activewear, intimates, shoes, and cloth diapers. If it can be made with a needle and thread—she's probably tried it.
Anna studied advanced techniques at Columbia College in Chicago, where she learned couture and professional garment construction. After graduating, she chose not to enter the fast-fashion world and instead built a career in Software Engineering, where she worked for eight years. But when the industry shifted and she found herself laid off, she took it as a sign: it was time to return to her roots.
Now, Anna is bringing her experience and love for sewing to others—teaching skills that many have lost in an age of convenience. Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned sewist, her workshops are a space to learn, create, and reconnect with the joy of making something with your own two hands. Some workshops might lean more toward certain groups (like moms and kids, homeschool groups, advanced projects, or total beginners), but everyone is welcome here.
Come stitch with us—and rediscover what you’re capable of.
